Dr. Amy Townsend-Small

Dr. Amy Townsend-Small, a distinguished professor with tenure in the Departments of Geology and Geography at the University of Cincinnati, is a prominent researcher and educator in the field of environmental science. She earned her Ph.D. in Marine Science from The University of Texas at Austin in 2006, focusing on carbon and nitrogen cycling in the Peruvian Andean Amazon. Over the years, Dr. Townsend-Small has held various academic positions at the University of Cincinnati, rising from an Assistant Professor to an Associate Professor with tenure and finally to a full Professor. She has also undertaken significant roles outside of academia, including serving as a National Academy of Sciences Jefferson Science Fellow and Senior Climate Advisor at the United States Department of State. Her work has earned her numerous accolades, including the Meritorious Service Award from the Department of State and a Fulbright Public Policy Fellowship for her dedication to environmental research and policy. Dr. Townsend-Small's research primarily focuses on methane emissions, carbon cycling, and environmental impacts of human activities, and her extensive publication record reflects her contributions to these areas. She also actively engages in public service and science policy, advocating for sustainable environmental practices and promoting scientific understanding in the broader community.
