Dr. Jiba Raj Pokharel is a prominent Architect, Planner, and Architecture Conservator in Nepal. He is a retired Professor of the Institute of Engineering at Tribhuvan University and former Dean, holds a Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arc.) from India and a PhD in Architecture Conservation from the University of York, UK. He has held prestigious roles such as Immediate Past Vice Chancellor and Academician at the Nepal Academy of Science and Technology and President of the Nepal Engineers Association. Presently, he is the principal of Kantipur Engineering College and Everest World School. Dr. Pokharel is a multilingual professional with excellent proficiency in English and Nepali. He has been actively involved in various professional and social organizations, serving as an Academician at the Nepal Academy for Science and Technology and as the Past President of the Nepal Engineers' Association (NEA). He is a member of the Society of Nepali Architects (SONA) and has held positions on several committees and boards, including the Nepal Engineering Council, Town Development Fund Board, and the Higher Education Monitoring Committee. Dr. Pokharel has played a crucial role in numerous projects, such as the Integrated Tourism Master Plan for Rara, the construction of ponds for disaster prevention, indigenous drainage technology for landslide prevention, and master planning for various historical sites and educational institutions. His extensive experience and expertise extend to disaster risk reduction, climate resilience, and heritage preservation. Over his career, he has contributed significantly to various academic and research activities, including supervising Ph.D. dissertations and serving as an architectural consultant for multiple projects. Dr. Jiba Raj Pokharel has made substantial contributions to the fields of architecture, urban planning, disaster management, and heritage conservation and has received numerous awards and honors in recognition of his dedication and expertise.
Dr. Pokharel is celebrated for designing the Maya Devi temple in Lumbini and has authored books like "Oh! Architecture," "Sikchhak Sisya Sambad," and "Patan Ko Krishna Mandir," contributing to publications like the Himalayan Times, Rising Nepal, and Annapurna Post. His heritage preservation involvement includes Hari Bhawan and Jaya Bageswori temple, and he recently led an architectural team for the Sustainable Tourism Development Action Plan of the Chyama Singha Dattatraya Corridor in Bhaktapur, now focusing on the Chapagaon conservation and development plan. As a founder of the Nepal Centre for Disaster Management (NCDM), he has pioneered disaster risk reduction technologies and authored the inaugural disaster epic, "Maina Bulbul," all reflecting his dedication to addressing disaster-related challenges.
